5 stars (Hilarious!!! at last a book talking about you and not the baby) - Recommend it for everyone! my husband liked it a lot too. I wish the first chapter of the girlsfriend guide to the first year was in this book instead. BUy Both and read them before the baby is born. I got hit by a postpartum blues stage that did not let me read through the other book until I had passed that stage... should I had had the other book or read the first chapter....I might have been a little less concerned about feeling like an alien had possesed me.... 5 stars (Funny Pregnancy Read) - This is an awesome book that every first time mom should read. It isn't as scary, wordy, and technical as "What to expect when your expecting". I used the girlfriend's guide as a secondary book to that one. It is very good for a few laughs and not so good on the technical information but that is what the other book is for. 1 stars (I truly couldn't stand this) - Yes I know she is trying to be funny, and sarcastic, but it mostly comes off as mean and whiney. I wanted a light read, not this condescending instructional book which really isn't any more informative than any other pregnancy guide I've picked up. In my opinion, its NEVER A good idea to tell your husband "and that's the child you didn't want!" after a baby he was less than enthused about is born and makes him smile. Can we say marriage counseling? And I don't think pregnancy gives you an excuse to treat everyone around you badly. And please don't tell a pregnant woman that your friends, who love you and are trying to support you, are outright lying when they tell you how good you look and how little your body has changed. You probably NEED that type of encouragement from friends, and hearing that your friends MUST be lying is just destructive. I couldn't even get through this one, I think this book seriously needs a rewrite and the author, a clue that you don't need to be mean to be funny. ...

5 stars (My new hero) - Melody Beattie is my new hero. She has walked through the trenches, fought the battle and lived not only to tell about it, but to offer hope for those of us who are still in the battlefield or still shell shocked from the trauma of it all. I recognized myself in her descriptions of a co-dependent, sometimes painfully so. I had to put the book down a time or two, because I felt she came right off the page to knock me into reality. I heard of the book from Dr. Irene's verbal abuse site [...] which stated this book is a must read for those of us with codependent behavior. I have to agree. I am looking forward to applying my newfound knowledge and the confidence acquired from it in oncoming life situations. I hope to become my own new hero. 4 stars (just what I needed) - I am currently reading this book and loving it. I am taking a long time to finish it because it is so deep. It is easy reading, but in order to get much out of it you really have to read it slowly and of course change your wrong behavior, one step at a time. I like the fact that the author tells you that change does take time. It seldom happens overnight. Very comforting for someone who wants to see huge changes overnight. I also like that she encourages you to have a relationship with God. He is the only one whom we are supposed to be codependent with. The DNA of Relationships

4 stars (Not just for married people) - I thought this would be a really stupid marriage book when our church started this study (and I'm single so I didn't want a stupid marriage study), but I have really enjoyed the videos, the book, and the downloadable study guide. I decided to take the study seriously and discovered this book is a practical guide to how to make ANY relationship better. The review at the end of each chapter is a quick way to refresh your mind on the main points of what the previous chapter taught. The quiz at the end of the book is great and helps you to identify your core fears - what sets you off in what Smalley calls the "Fear Dance," when you have conflicts with others. Each conflict boils down to one of two core fears - fear loss of connection, or fear of loss of control. Women usually have the first fear, and men the second, though there is overlap. ALL fears we have boil down to one of these two. I have learned that I need to take responsibility for my buttons and allowing people to push them (the chapter "The Power of One"). No one can make me do or feel anything. This book has also forced me to take a hard look at myself and how I treat others, and whether I have created an anvironment where they feel safe to share their heart with me. 4 stars (Makes sense to m) - The book is easy to read, and the exercises really make you think. My ex and I are going through this book with our pastor to see if there's any hope of reconciling and so far it's helped us realize all the things we did wrong in our marriage and why. It's helping us to take the focus off who's to blame and refocusing on what's the right thing to do. We're about 2/3 of the way through the book so we haven't finished it yet, but I expect the rest of it will be as helpful as what we've already covered. I'd recommend this book for anyone considering a serious relationship, in the middle of a relationship, or trying to rebuild one. It does a good job of covering them all. ...

A Child Called -It-- One Child-s Courage to Survive

4 stars (Wonderful Insight into Resilence and Protective Factors) - I had been wanting to purchase this book for quite some time, but never got around to it until it was assigned for a psychology course I was enrolled in. True, it is a short text, and true, the grammar is not perfect - but it is not meant to be. Pelzer wrote the book as an adult, but tried to write it from his perspective when he was a child (the time period when he actually experienced the events detailed in the book). If this book had been written from a purely adult, grammatically "proper" perspective, it would have gained a more "distant" tone and thereby lost some of it's power to really grip and touch the reader. The text can be read in awe of what Pelzer experienced as a child, certainly. But that is not all one can gather from it. The trianglization, power struggles, and family dynamics which play out throughout the story are not only dramatic, but very clinically realistic. The potential effects of alcohol use on family structure are an eye-opener. And most of all, one should note the protective factors David found in his life which enabled him to survive his mother's horrendous patterns of abuse - while they are not nearly so dramatic as all the "punishment" he endured, they are just as significant. This would be a good book particularly for anyone who works with children (or plans to), whether they are a psychologist, counselor, educator, social worker, mentor, or even a parent. Too often adults see only the negative things that have happened to a child, and fear the effects that those things may have on the child's behavior or personality... it is just as important to be able to recognize what strengths, talents, and interests are in children which allow them to cope with or overcome negative factors. 1 stars (laundry list with no context) - If the abuse was real, or if even part of it was, my sympathy goes out to the author and my praise for rising above it. Healthy Sleep Habits- Happy Child

5 stars (This Book Changed Our Lives) - When my daughter was 7 months old she was waking up every 90 minutes and not napping well. I was exhausted and becoming anxious. I felt powerless to help her. I knew something had to change. A dear friend gave me this book and by coincidence a family meember also sent me the same book. This book is so good because it is filled with useful information that actually helped my family. I tried several of his recomendations with great results. Every now and then my daughters sleep will go through changes and I still consult this book for help. I have given it to many people. My own Pediatrician did not know as much about sleep as Weisslbuth does. Every new parent should own this book. I cannot say more good things about it. 5 stars (This saved my sanity (and probably my marriage)) - I can't say enough good things about this book. I read it when my son was 5 months old. Prior to that, he 'napped' during the day for about 30 minutes at a time and screamed the rest of the day and night. Turns out, he was seriously over tired and all of my attempts to get him to sleep were actually adding to the problem. The day I put the advice in this book into action, my life changed. I am actually able to enjoy my son. Buy it. Buy two just in case you lose the first one. 3 stars (Helped with naps...) - "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" is a good reference guide for getting your child to sleep better during the day. My son went from maybe taking one nap to taking 3 decent naps. I now know his "tired" signals and immediately put him to bed. It is very rare when he fights naps now. However, this book has not helped us with his night-wakings. The book tells parents to put the child to sleep between 6 pm and 6:30, my child won't sleep at 6 pm. He has gotten himself on a schedule where between 6:30 and 7 pm he wants to be in his pj's and eating and then put to bed. The book also suggests not getting the child when he cries...in other wo...

5 stars (The Best Nursing Book You Can Buy) - I discovered this book two months into breastfeeding, and wished I had found it sooner. Everything you possibly need to know about nursing is under one cover. Unlike most other breastfeeding books that only discuss nursing a newborn, this book contains information on nursing newborns through toddlers. Highly recommend this book for all nursing mothers. 5 stars (Excellent nursing book!) - I bought this book as I am expecting my second baby and had problems nursing the first. I went through at least half a dozen lactation consultants with my first before I got the info I needed to make breastfeeding successful, and this was after the first two weeks and after my baby was hospitalized due to dehydration. I wish I had this book then, as it covers everything I needed to know about poor latch/insufficient milk supply. I am learning so much as I read the book and feel so much more confident as I approach the birth of my second. This book covers every issue I think you could come across with breastfeeding. 5 stars (Lots of good info) - Great book. Actually answered some questions (one in particular) for which I'd been unable to find answers elsewhere. Including at the Medela booth at a professional conference. 4 stars (Tuesday's with Morrie) - A short story that makes you reflect on your life and whether or not you are achieving the dreams you set out for yourself. I recommend it. 5 stars (All About the LITTLE Things) - Yeah there is no way to describe the book. To capture the essence of it, the story behind it or what you come away with. Other then it reminds you of the basics of life and all that jazz in a non-boring-lecture-the-teacher-is-a-moron-kinda-way... ::sigh:: Read the book and then share the love and the knowledge! Buy it, pass it on. Whether you say it changes your life, or not, it does not matter. For though I believe it hasn't changed mine, it express what I have felt is the forever the fundamentals of life, and what needs to be remembered and enjoyed.
